Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) inaugurated Labtek XVII building on Thursday (11/21/2024) at its Ganesha Campus in Bandung. The building has been officially named “Dato’ Dr. Low Tuck Kwong” to honor the remarkable IDR100 billion donation contributed by Dato’ Low Tuck Kwong through BPUDL.
The funds, received by ITB in 2019, have been managed by BPUDL to provide broad benefits and maximize their impact for ITB. Of the total amount, IDR50 billion was allocated for the construction of Labtek XVII, while the remaining IDR50 billion was invested as an endowment to fund scholarships for ITB students. The construction on the building commenced in 2022 under the coordination of the Vice Rector for Finance, Planning, and Development.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominet figures, including ITB Rector, Reini Wirahadikusumah, Dato’ Low Tuck Kwong, Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Filda Yusgiantoro, Kadarsah Suyadi (ITB Rector 2015-2020), Dahlan Iskan, ITB leadership, faculty members from the Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, dan the PYC team.
In her speech, Rector Reini expressed her gratitude to Dato’ Low Tuck Kwong for his extraordinary contribution. “What Dato’ has done exemplifies the value of the joy of giving. This inspire all of us to continue fostering collaboration for the advancement of education,” she said. She also highlighted that the donation has not only funded the building’s construction, but also benefited 1.940 ITB students through scholarship.
Filda Yusgiantoro, Chair of PYC praised Dato’ Low Tuck Kwong philatropic spirit and unwavering commitment to education in Indonesia. “Beyond ITB, he has also supported 12 other universities across Java and Kalimantan, all entirely funded from his personal resources,” she noted. She expressed hope that this building would not only strengthen research in petroleum engineering but also open new opportunities for technological innovation.
During the inauguration, Dato’ Low Tuck Kwong and Purnomo Yusgiantoro took the opportunity to meet with recipients of the “Dato’ Low Tuck Kwong and PYC scholarships”. This meeting allowed the students to express their gratitude directly to the donors.
Labtek XVII features state-of-the-art facilities designed to support advanced research in enhanced oil recovery (EOR). The building is expected to serve as a leading research hub for petroleum engineering and energy technology, perfectly aligning with ITB’s vision to promote education, research, and innovation in Indonesia.
